Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, does many things for your body and skin. It’s a good antioxidant and an important player in the creation of ceramides in the skin. It’s needed for collagen synthesis and is used in some products to reduce the appearance of age spots.
A challenge with vitamin C is that it’s very unstable in its pure form and oxidates quickly, which means it loses its potency. To solve this, chemists have developed a number of variations (derivatives*) of vitamin C that are more stable and are commonly used in skin care. One example is sodium ascorbyl phosphate which we offer in your personalized skin care.
*A derivative is the chemical term of a substance that’s created from a similar compound by some chemical or physical process. In laymen terms you can see these compounds as “siblings”.
