Before you start personalising your skin care, you should know the basic content of a skin care product.

Face creams are emulsions – a water and oil mixture. Oil and water don’t mix naturally, so the creams also contain emulsifiers that create tiny oil droplets surrounded by water. There are a wide range of oils that can be used. Some are extracted from seeds and nuts, usually referred to as “natural” oils. Other oils are mineral (petroleum) based.

Then there are the active ingredients that react with your skin to improve its appearance. Fragrances are usually added, but remember, fragrances are one of the most common allergens and should be avoided if you have sensitive skin.
